Top Meantime - Then Dropped Off...
von Christiane Mitterwallner

Hello again from Aspen!

The area is gorgeous but rather expensive, too. The piste was in good shape and the organizing staff did all they could to make this race a good and successful one. I felt good right from the start and made friends with the slope at first go. The course was technically demanding and the artificial snow did not make it easier, though. As I know that my technical skills are quite good, I had a good feeling when examining the slope the day before the race.

I started the run with 38 on my back, but this was not that disadvantageous for I was sure that the course would remain in good shape, and I was not deceived. It could hardly be seen that anyone else did run down before. Until the first meantime, I was 0.05 sec. ahead. Passing the second meantime, I was only narrowly behind best time (0.20 sec.). Unfortunately, I did not reach the finishing line again, for after the second time taking, It drove me off in the snow. Anyway, as I did a good job until I dropped off, I can be at least absolutely sure that I solved my boot-problem in super-G and that I can be fast.

I will be staying in Aspen until Monday, for I have to chase two more NOR AM super-G races on Sunday and Monday. After this, I will head for Canada/Lake Louise and train downhill to get to know the course of the super-G to come.

Until my next report from Lake Louise, I wish you all the best and keep in touch :-)
